Roger & Ruby Marks

In 1956 Roger Marks married his high school sweetheart Ruby Grover.  They purchased the business from his parents in 1958 along with Roger's brother, Earl.  They became sole owners a few years later.  Roger and Ruby had 5 children, Lisa, Tammy, Terri, Doug and Sue, all of whom worked at the Locker during their growing up years.
In 1976 Roger began having health problems.  He had surgery to remove a benign brain tumor.  He spent several weeks in Rochester recovering.  All this time Ruby stayed by his side, kept the Locker going, and tried to manage 5 teenage kids from long distance.  The latter probably being the most difficult.
After his surgery, Roger was no longer able to do the kind of work he was used to.  Ruby continued to run the Locker with help from her children and hired help.  Not always easy, Ruby never complained.
In 1984 the grocery store was closed and a lot of remodeling was done.  A smoke house was added and Marks Locker then began doing their own curing and sausage making.  The businesss was growing and the deer population increasing, so in 1989 more remodeling was done and space was added on to include more work space, freezer space and another smoke house.

Fall of 1999, Roger was diagnosed with kidney cancer and passed away in March 2000.  Ruby continued on until she sold the business to daughter Lisa and son-in-law Tom in 2003.  Ruby continues to be a large part of the business working part time in the spring and summer and full time in the fall and winter.
